200th student qualifies through the Quilter Financial Adviser School

28 March 2019

The Quilter Financial Adviser School (FAS) is pleased to announce that it has now helped over 200 students achieve a Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMap) or a Diploma for Financial Advisers (DipFA).

Since Quilter acquired and re-launched the FAS in January 2016, over 300 students have joined the school and completed either a CeMap, DipFA or both. The average age of the school’s students is 29 with 33% of learners being female.

FAS, which operates on not-for-profit basis, offers a range of different programmes which are available to any adviser wishing to take the qualification. The core programme includes the DipFA and CeMap exams and, in autumn last year, the school announced that it also added a level 6 chartered course. All of the programmes include skills training at the heart of the programme.

In October 2018, Intrinsic also announced that as part of its commitment to boosting the number of financial advisers in its National and Network business it was going to fund an adviser training programme provided by FAS. The programme is open to any student who will become a restricted financial planner within the Intrinsic network and remains for two years once they’ve qualified.

Darren Smith, Head of the Quilter Financial Adviser School, comments:

“Gaining a certificate in mortgage or financial advice can be the first step on the road to a lifelong vocation or an opportunity for someone to start afresh in a new profession. It’s therefore really pleasing to reach the milestone of 200 graduates and to know that we are able to support firms in their growth or succession plans.

“Over the last three years we have steadily built out the range of programmes within FAS, meaning students are now able to study up to chartered status. In 2017, there was just one adviser for every 2,550 adults in the UK. It is therefore vital that we boost the numbers of financial advisers and it’s fantastic that FAS can be at the forefront of helping to bring new people into the sector, from diverse backgrounds, to build the next generation of advisers.”
